On March 20 1994, RAI TV news reporter Ilaria Alpi and her cameraman Miran Hrovatin were killed in ambush in Mogadishu, Somalia. Their investigative reporting had brought them too close to a truth they were not supposed to uncover. THE CRUELEST DAY is a powerful drama which recounts Alpi and Hrovatin's journey through a maze of gripping plot twists involving deaths, perilous investigations, and enormous sums of money, which culminated in a hellish international scenario that matches the greatest spy stories ever told. Giovanna Mezzogiorno (FACING WINDOWS) delivers a charismatic and harrowing performance as Ilaria Alpi, and ensures that THE CRUELEST DAY is never less than fascinating viewing.
